«A City Within A City»
I live in a city within a city
where the atmosphere is a coagulation
of dreams that have hardened in the arteries
of struggle, of survival, of vocabulary
from behind the walls of fortification
all words dress in obscurity's cloak
hiding in the names of the streets and street wise agents
drunk on the slang of the wandering lost
in urban profanity, a growling parasite
feeds on the blood of the anemic inhabitants
burning like abandoned vehicles
on a free/way that is anything but
high above the towers of empire
beneath a brilliant stained glass sky
there stands in silence a haunting proof
a crumbling madness, a hollow threat
the artists gather on the riverbank
to squawk and defecate upon the stones
the politicians, three steps behind
to confiscate the discarded bones
here is the home of the living deity
here is the capital of the parallel world
a sacramental celebration
a metropolis of love and jewels and birth
this is the desired dwelling
unlimited within the limitations
of a liquid room floating upon the surface
of a city deep within a city
