HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HILDEGARD VON BINGEN
(born in 1098)
Illustration by Hildegard von Bingen from the Liber Divinorum Operum, obviously inspired by the drawing of Vitruvius, a Roman architect (1st century B.C.). Much later on during the Renaissance, Leonardo da Vinci will make his own representation of the Vitruvian Man to study the proportions of the human body. Source: Britannica
Poet, scientist, artist, philosopher, theologian, and composer of classical music, HILDEGARD OF BINGEN is the embodiment of feminine genius.
Her writings, compiled in the Riesencodex, bear witness to her powerful and versatile intellect, a personality trait well known to polymaths.
A neologist, von Bingen invented Lingua Ignota, a new language which aims at expressing the universal. She is also a founder of monasteries. Like Poets Sri Aurobindo and Mirra Alfassa, her lavish creative life drew its strength from intense mystical experiences.
When the masters' voices fall silent, their work becomes eternal. Happy birthday, Mother-poet!
